Johnson City Board of Education adopts new 5-year plan

5 year plan

The Johnson City Board of Education approved its new 5-year plan for Johnson City Schools during the regular meeting on Monday, June 6. The 5-year plan provides guidance for district plans and projects moving into the future.

“We are excited about the adoption of the 5-year plan by our Board of Education,” Johnson City Schools Superintendent Steve Barnett said. “This document will help guide us throughout the next five years as we continue to grow and best serve the needs of our students and community. As our board has expressed, we are very grateful for the amount of community input we received on this plan.”

For the first time, the district solicited applications from the community for involvement. More than 100 community members, school staff, school administration and students served on the five committees, focusing on the five key result areas of achievement, community engagement, human resources, infrastructure, along with wellness and safety.

The planning process began with the Johnson City Board Education retreat on August 16, 2021, and was revisited during a November 15, 2021 meeting. After that, the board set its five key result areas in December. Co-chairs were then appointed in November and the committee meetings were held in January and February.

The entire 5-year plan can be viewed here or at www.jcschools.org/5yearplan
